Veneers are very thin, glass-like pieces of porcelain that are custom designed for you by your dentist, with the close relationship of their favourite dental laboratory. Porcelain veneers can recreate that younger smile you've always wanted, brighten, whiten or even makeover your entire smille!
As with all dental restorations, veneers are not permanent and may someday need replacement, though are very durable, long-lasting and a wonderful result when considering cosmetic dentistry!
Reasons for porcelain veneers:
-
To create a uniform, brilliant smile
-
Correct crooked, twisted, chipped or worn teeth
-
Severely discolored or stained teeth
-
Remove unwanted or uneven spaces
-
Brighten those pearly whites!!
What does getting porcelain veneers involve?
Before booking the prep appointment, we prefer to start with what we call a SMILE ANALYSIS. This appointment generally takes 45 minutes, and is soley an information gathering visit. During this time, your dentist will measure the length and width of each tooth involved, view facial shape, smile profile, determine occlusion ( the way your teeth mesh together), present shade, and gingival symmetry. It is at this visit your dentist will want to hear all of your questions and concerns , what YOU would like to achieve, and what YOUR expectations may be. At the end of this visit, your dental assistant will then proceed with digital pictures of your smile, and impressions of your teeth, which in turn allows your dentist to make the most informed and thorough recommendation possible.
The models that are taken of your teeth are then sent to the dental laboratory and a WAX MOCK UP is then sculpted to the DESIRED smile style you have chosen together with your dentist. Within a week later, a short visit at the office is required so you can view the wax mock up along with your dentist, hopefully meeting your approval. If at this time there are any changes you would like to see, now is the time to do so very easily. Usually all looks great, and we're ready to proceed!
The first visit involves minor trimming of the teeth, only enough to allow proper thickness of porcelain to achieve ultimate strength and the perfect colour desired! After the teeth are prepared, a silicone impression will be taken, then sent to the lab to start the fabrication of the veneers. Finally, temporary veneers will be made and lightly bonded to your teeth to help prevent sensitivty and protect them until your next visit.
About two weeks later, you will return to office to have temporary veneers removed, and permanent veneers bonded into place. Your dentist will check your bite very carefully, usually requesting a follow-up visit to ensure all is good with your bite.....and to take some AMAZING AFTER PICS!
You will receive care instructions for veneers. Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental visits will aid in the life of your new veneers.
