A dental bridge is a fixed (non-removable) appliance and is an excellent way to replace missing teeth.
There are several styles of bridges. You and your dentist will discuss the best options for your particular case. The “traditional bridge” is the most commonly recommended and is of porcelain fused to white gold. Porcelain fixed bridges are most popular because they resemble your natural teeth. This type of bridge consists to two crowns that go over two anchoring teeth (abutment teeth) and are attached to pontics (missing tooth), filling the space created by one or more missing teeth.
Bridges are highly durable and will last many years, however they may need replacement or to be rebonded due to normal wear.
Reasons for a fixed bridge:
-
Fill space of missing teeth
-
Maintain facial shape
-
Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
-
Restore chewing and speaking ability
-
Enhance your smile
What does getting a fixed bridge involve?
Having a bridge made requires two visits. While you are frozen, the two anchoring teeth are prepared by removing any decay present, applying the HEALOZONE, and placing new bonded foundations in order to build a bridge. A silicone impression is then taken, which is sent to the dental laboratory where the bridge will be fabricated, and shading /colours will be selected at this time. On occasion though, you may be asked to visit our local lab to ensure colour choices. You will leave your first appointment with a temporary bridge in place, which is left until your permanent bridge is inserted, about three weeks later.
During your insertion visit, your temporary bridge will be removed, and your porcelain bridge is carefully bonded into place. Your bite will be checked several times, to ensure your comfort. On occasion, Dr. Milne or Dr. Manicom may request that you have a follow-up visit to recheck your bite, and make any further adjustments necessary at that time.
You will receive care instructions at the conclusion of your treatment. Please remember that maintaining regular dental visits will allow us to follow up on any care required for your investment.
