How Does the CEREC® Crowns Treatment Process Work?
Crowns are typically used when a tooth or older filling becomes cracked or broken. They are often recommended in conjunction with root canal procedures depending on various factors, including the location of the tooth. The CEREC® crown process will typically involve the following steps:
- Your natural tooth will need to be prepared, so any decay and infection are addressed and then the remaining part of your tooth is shaped to accommodate the crown
- The CEREC® scanner will take a 3D image of your tooth and the surrounding area
- The image is then relayed to CAD software to create a 3D model
- Once the model is ready, the actual restoration is milled out of a solid ceramic block
- Your new crown will be examined for fit and color
- When approved, the restoration is bonded into place
This entire process can be completed in just one appointment at Dr. Karen Davis and Dr. John Milne Dentistry. If your old restoration is failing or your tooth is cracking or badly decaying, you may be a good candidate for this procedure. Please note that if we are fabricating an implant-supported crown, a return visit will be needed.
